View weather layers on the map

Use Weather Layer on the station map to show Rain Radar, the experimental RainViewer overlay.

Show or hide the rain radar

  1. Open the map.
    • On regular-width iPad layouts and Mac, open Map from the main navigation.
    • On iPhone and compact iPad layouts, open the map from the station picker or a Station Map card.
  2. Open Weather Layer.
  3. Choose Rain Radar to show the overlay, or None to return to the base map.

Rain Radar is on by default. The choice also applies to Station Map cards on the Real Time dashboard.

Pause or resume the radar

On the full map, the radar animates the available frames from the two hours ending at the latest RainViewer frame. The Rain Radar caption shows the time of the displayed frame.

Tap or click the radar caption to pause playback. The caption adds (paused). Tap or click it again to resume. Map loading or station-discovery messages can temporarily replace the caption; wait for the radar time to return before pausing or resuming.

With the system Reduce Motion setting enabled, the map shows a static view of the latest frame. Station Map cards remain static and show the latest composite.

For coverage, refresh behavior, and the other map controls, see the Map reference.
